The prophecy indicates that Christ would rattle Babylon\u2019s acting king, which He did. It also expounds on how Christ would open the gates of Babylon before Cyrus\u2019 armies. This happened exactly as prophesied. When the army reached the gates, the drunken soldiers neglected to lock them, allowing the invaders to march right in.<br><br>Daniel 5:30-31<br>\u201cIn that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain. And Darius the Median took the kingdom, being about threescore and two years old.\u201d<br><br>After Christ explained His long-suffering mercy and righteous judgment through Daniel, He executed His judgment. Babylon was invaded and conquered, Belshazzar was killed, and Darius the Mede took the throne. Medo-Persia was now the new world empire, precisely as Christ had shown to Nebuchadnezzar years before through apocalyptic prophecy.<br><br>The fall of Babylon in this chapter is crucial to our understanding of prophecy. The prophecy indicates that Christ would rattle Babylon\u2019s acting king, which He did. It also expounds on how Christ would open the gates of Babylon before Cyrus\u2019 armies. This happened exactly as prophesied. As the book of Daniel lays the foundation for our understanding of apocalyptic prophecy in its later chapters and the book of Revelation, this narrative of Babylon\u2019s fall guides our understanding of the fall of symbolic Babylon, which is one of the highlights in the book of Revelation.
